It’s easy to be overwhelmed with all the final assignments, exams, and graduation plans that you may not consider these truths to keep in mind when going into your final year of school. It’s important to keep these at back of your mind so you can finish strong.
Truth 1: This year is just as important, if not more, than the others.
Remember to not get bogged down in senioritis. Grades and extracurriculars still count. Deadlines for assignments, projects, college applications, and scholarships will be here before you know it. So, don’t procrastinate, be proactive, and always plan ahead.
Truth 2: You are not alone!
Your peers are also experiencing their final year and most likely feeling the same anxieties. You also have teachers and counselors who want to see you succeed, so be sure to lean on them for guidance. Never be afraid to talk about what you’re feeling and ask for help.
Truth 3: Protect your peace.
This year is going to be stressful as you prepare to finish strong and get ready for the future as a new adult. There will also be a lot of changes- in schedules, assignment difficulty and volume, relationships, and yourself. You may grow apart from your friends, you might break up with a significant other, and you may discover new things about yourself. You may evolve enough where you find that what you thought you wanted for your future isn’t true anymore.
We’re not trying to scare you or have you assume the worst by listing these things out, but as a heads up for what can happen this year and that it’s important to put your wellbeing first as you handle them. So:
- Always seek out the support you need whether it’s a counseling session or an extension on an assignment
- Cut out what’s negatively impacting you if possible
- Make time to do things you enjoy
- Surround yourself with people who want the best for you
- Focus on yourself.
