Questions to Consider When Exploring Career Paths
When stepping out of the classroom and into the professional world, we have to figure out what kind of professional we would like to be, the path we should take that will fund our lives and use our talents to the fullest. A lot of graduates, from high school or higher education, don’t even know what kind of career they want to pursue which is perfectly normal. If you’re one of these graduates, let’s look at some questions to consider that may help you figure out what you’d like to do.
Before we dive in, we want you to know that it’s okay if you don’t have an answer for all or any of them and that you may find the answers you have to these questions right now might change in the future.
- What am I good at?
- What are my strengths and weaknesses?
- What kind of lifestyle do I want to live?
- How much money do I need to make to support the lifestyle I want?
- What do I value most?
- What do I want to achieve with my career?
- What career paths am I interested in?
- Why am I drawn to certain career paths?
- What can I offer to others?
- What careers am I definitely not interested in?
- How do I like to spend my time?
- What activities bring me joy?
- What is a cause that I’d like to contribute to?
- Who do I look up to? Why?
- What classes do I look forward to and why?
- What’s something I have a lot of knowledge about and may even like to research?
- Do I like working with others or on my own? Why?
- If whatever I wanted to do in the future was guaranteed to make me happy and financially stable, what would I want it to be?
While this may seem like a lot to consider, we encourage you to not just think about the answers to these questions but also write them down and any other additional thoughts.
